ePTO – Electric Power Take-Off Solutions for Electric Commercial Vehicles
An ePTO (Electric Power Take-Off) is an auxiliary power system designed to supply the energy required by vehicle-mounted equipment on electric and alternative-energy commercial vehicles.
Depending on the vehicle architecture, an ePTO can operate as a purely electrical system or as an electro-mechanical power take-off solution. In a typical configuration, electrical energy supplied by the vehicle’s power distribution system is used to operate a dedicated electric motor. This motor can then drive auxiliary equipment such as hydraulic pumps, compressors, water pumps, vacuum systems or other bodybuilder equipment.
Kozmaksan ePTO Solutions
Kozmaksan develops modular electro-mechanical ePTO systems engineered for integration with electric commercial vehicle platforms and OEM high-voltage architectures.
The system converts electrical energy available from the vehicle into controlled mechanical power for auxiliary equipment. By combining an electric motor, power transmission components and application-specific interfaces, Kozmaksan ePTO solutions provide a compact and adaptable alternative to conventional mechanical PTO systems.
Each system can be configured according to the vehicle and application requirements, including:
Required hydraulic flow and pressure
Auxiliary equipment power demand
Motor speed and torque requirements
Hydraulic pump specifications
Vehicle voltage architecture
Duty cycle and operating conditions
OEM control and communication requirements
This modular approach allows the system to be adapted for a wide range of special-purpose and vocational vehicles.
From Conventional PTO to Electric PTO
Traditional commercial vehicles generally obtain auxiliary power through mechanical Power Take-Off gearboxes.
Two of the most common solutions are:
Transmission PTOs, which take mechanical power directly from the vehicle transmission
Split Shaft PTO systems, which transfer power through the driveline
These systems have traditionally powered hydraulic pumps and auxiliary equipment used on firefighting vehicles, sewer cleaning trucks, vacuum trucks, road maintenance vehicles, cranes and many other vocational applications.
With the development of battery-electric, fuel-cell and alternative-energy commercial vehicles, conventional drivetrain architectures are changing significantly. In some electric vehicle platforms, the traditional transmission or driveline PTO connection may no longer be available.
This creates a new engineering requirement for vehicle manufacturers and bodybuilders that still need substantial auxiliary power.
How an ePTO Works
A Kozmaksan electro-mechanical ePTO performs the same fundamental task as a conventional PTO: supplying reliable power to auxiliary equipment.
Instead of taking mechanical energy directly from a transmission or driveshaft, the system uses a dedicated electric motor connected to the vehicle’s electrical power architecture.
The electric motor converts electrical energy into controlled mechanical output, which can then drive equipment such as:
Hydraulic pumps
Firefighting pumps
Vacuum and sewer cleaning systems
Compressors
Crane hydraulic systems
Road maintenance equipment
Municipal vehicle equipment
Other high-power auxiliary systems
Depending on the vehicle platform, the ePTO can also communicate with the vehicle control system through CAN-Bus communication, allowing operating parameters, safety logic and auxiliary equipment functions to work together with the vehicle electronics.
Engineered for Commercial Vehicle Applications
Kozmaksan combines decades of experience in Power Take-Off systems, Split Shaft PTOs, transfer cases and commercial vehicle powertrain engineering with the requirements of next-generation electric vehicles.
Our ePTO solutions are developed for applications where reliable auxiliary power remains critical, even when the conventional mechanical drivetrain architecture is no longer available.
From hydraulic power generation to demanding continuous-duty auxiliary applications, Kozmaksan provides application-specific ePTO configurations designed around the vehicle, equipment and operating conditions.
